Malawi is poor landlocked country with a GDP of$7.667bn, $411.6 per capita(2019), which makes it one of the poorest countries on the planet.
It has little mineral wealth and limited agriculture. It is far from a port which makes its agricultural exports uncompetitive on world markets and imported building materials very expensive.
The rural communities survive on subsistence agriculture with limited cash crops of tobacco, tea and coffee.
Literacy is low.
AIDS Has been very prevalent, however the life expectancy has increased since we started working in the country from 50 years in 2007 to 64 years in 2020.
It is a peaceful country with no obvious tribal divisions and is known as ‘The warm heart of Africa’.
Although the country is desperately short of schools there is widespread awareness of the importance of education.
