Kasungu Area

Kamphokota

Brick by Brick has built 3 classroom blocks and provided many desks.

There has also been funding for solar electricity to be used in the classrooms for adult literacy classes.

A feeding programme has also been started.

Katawa

We started this school initially as the children had to walk far to attend school and they had to cross a main road. A little girl was killed by a car on her way to school.

Brick by Brick built one block and there is another one funded by another charity.

Matundu

The charity has built 2 classroom blocks and provided desks. This is a very proactive community who work very hard to provide for their children.

The school has a thriving sports programme comprising football and netball and the teachers are very enthusiastic.

A very successful feeding programme is working well and the Headmaster is impressive.

A 3rd block will be built in the near future.

Kalimaziche

Brick by Brick built one block here

Mphonwa Secondary School

The charity has provided 3 scholarships per year for the last 12 years with varied results. This project is currently being assessed.

Brick by Brick also provided funds for a girls dormitory as the girls were sleeping in a classroom.

Mzuzu/Nkhata Bay Area

Tuwanda

The following 2 schools are very remote, 6 hours walking from the nearest town, Mzuzu or 2 hours by 4 by 4 Jeep.

This was our very first school and we are very happy that there are 2 classroom blocks plus a small room for teachers and stores.

We have done a lot of maintenance on this school, provided many desks and the parents started making school uniforms for their children. The Government has built some teachers’ houses but more are needed especially if they want to encourage female teachers.

On my last visit I agreed to build a 3rd classroom block, and they were to start the foundations after the rainy season.

Montsanto

This school is one hour from the town in a vehicle.

When we arrived many years ago the children were all learning under the trees.

We agree with the local MP to build a 3 classroom block if the Government would do the same.

On my last visit the 2 buildings were both completed and being fully used.

They have not asked for a 3rd block yet.

Chitoe 2

This school is even more remote than Tuwanda. Currently the charity has built 2 classroom blocks and the community have started building foundations for a 3rd block.

Again we have spent a lot of time maintaining buildings and providing desks. There are 5 teachers’ houses and a 6th is currently being built.

Mbowe

This is very near the tarmac road and the easiest to get to.

It is in a very poor area.

The children initially had to walk one hour to get to school and so we agreed to fund a building.

To date there is a 3 classroom block and foundations are being dug for a 2nd block.

The community were very proactive at the start but have slowed down a bit.

Kawalla

Brick by Brick built one classroom block, the government built a block and a lady donor provided a 3rd .

This school is doing very well and seems to have lot of other donors.
